Good luck with that @Cadgirl but remember to not OVERcommit. 2 hours a day is a long time if you’re just playing for yourself/practicing. If you fall behind don’t try to make it up, just let it go and don’t stress out. Your playing can improve with a lot less time than that (if you focus) but I understand the wanting to play for hours thing too. Main thing? Have fun!!

I don’t think you (and the others that posted here) are the only ones. The site’s not the same anymore and I rarely visit/post anymore at all.

I only worry as you used Gorilla Glue instead of the wood glues that were recommended to me and which I used when I replaced a bridge on an old guitar for a friend. I guess we’ll find out if it worked when you get home. 🙂

Hi @Ana L and welcome to the wonderful world of guitar! Great advice from @Loraine and I’d like to suggest that you try a “variety pack” of picks. You can either assemble them yourself by going to a local shop and choosing a bunch of individual picks to try or you can actually purchase a mixed set of picks like this one from Dunlop: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Dunlop/Acoustic-Variety-12-Pack-Picks-1500000140265.gc

Just to be clear it’s not so much the maker of the picks as it is the material, size and thickness that will change the sound of your guitar and feel better to play (2 separate things so try to find the pick(s) that does both for you). Take your time. Pick hunting is the cheapest, easiest and arguably the most fun way to change up your playing.

    Good luck!

Tony teaches guitar, not the drums. 😜

That’s a big win for you @Greebosolo! I changed the strings on my guitar a few weeks ago (it had been a while). When I saw my buddy a few days later I told him and got suckered into doing his as well. 😯

You’ve learned a valuable lesson there @Dirk_R as I’ve found as well. Concentrating “too much” can cause the brain and the body to go out of synch. The same is true if you have a “death grip” on the neck. Nope, the guitar is a relaxed instrument and you should try to be relaxed when you play it. Not paying attention to where you have to put down the fingers will, after a bit of slow and concentrated practice, come naturally if you let the body do the leading and leave the mind out of it. I don’t know if that’s true for everyone but it certainly works for me (and you too it sounds like)!

Different glues for different purposes/parts of the instrument @MikeGaurnier, that’s all. Stresses and tension varies depending on what you’re gluing. Bridges are under MAJOR pressure and so gets the strongest glue.

That should be OK. Not quite the adhesive power of Titebond (which is generally the luthier’s choice per my research when I was doing the repair) but it should be fine.

Here’s a couple of articles (the first mentions GG Wood Glue):

There’s lots of things that are now gone from TAC. That’s just the facts and we can’t look back as decisions were made. Try placing (or looking for) an ad on your local craigslist. I’ve also connected to people through meetup groups as well. Good luck, keep searching, the right people will find you and you them.

This isn’t so much YouTube but the holders of Copyrights and the use of overly broad filter software. Not saying the performance wasn’t great but rather that copyright holders are losing their minds when it comes to enforcement and YT.

Man, you miss a VOM or 2 and you miss the debut of a nice new guitar? Sorry about not seeing that performance @Dirk_R but happy for your acquisition. Looks really nice and I’m looking forward to hearing you play it real soon and long into the future!

Hahaha! Thanks @MikeGaurnier and yes, that’s a common misconception. The short story is you have the “violation” (the breaking of the law) and then you also have a penalty (the price to pay for the violation). Most holders of copyrights (as is the case here) know there’s no money made but if there is then the holder is likely entitled to it.
