Hi @Sungreen , welcome to TAC👍 My suggestion is to slow it way down, and don’t even worry about bpm’s at this point. You have to crawl before you can walk, and when you start walking, you’ll have to expect some stumbling along the way – so get 100% accuracy out of your mind also😱. Speed and accuracy will come with repetition!
Start by allowing your mind to learn and muscle memory to get used to the fretting/picking patterns in ONE position only. Once you feel confident that the fretting hand is working in conjunction with your mind, then start to introduce the picking pattern to the picking hand – again, allowing the mind and muscle memory to develop. Once you’re confident that both hands and your mind are working together, then go to another position and repeat the process for that position.
Good luck on your journey😎

Hi @OhWowMan , If @Loraine ‘s suggestion doesn’t work, then I’m thinking it has more to do with your guitar’s “action” than your technique. You shouldn’t have to apply any more pressure on the 8th fret than you did on the 1st fret, in fact, it should be less, that is if your guitar’s “action” (height of the strings above the frets) is set properly. The standard action for an acoustic is 3/32″ above the fret – measured at the 12th fret. If you’re using that guitar to play slide, then the action can be set higher. Any lower then you’ll get “Buzzing” from the strings as they vibrate against the frets. So carefully measure your string height at the 12th fret, if it’s more than 3/32″, then you’ll need to get that guitar a proper “set-up”.
I see that you live in Alaska, so getting to a luthier or a guitar shop won’t be easy. Perhaps there might be a YT video, but I would make that a last resort. Good luck.

Hi @JeffK , welcome to TAC. Listen to what everyone is telling you – arch – fingertips. Now one thing that I haven’t read from everyone’s posts is a way to get more arch, and that is palm position on the back of the neck. If you shift your palm forward (counterclockwise – palm away from your body – fingers coming toward you), that will give the ability to create more arch and allow for your fingertips to fret the strings. Hope that makes sense, good luck with your journey.
Oops, I see that @MikeGaurnier is echoing what I’m saying, but in a different way.

Another bright light in TACland going dark😱😱😖
This is sad news to me @deagle , I feel like we were starting to create a connection, if you will, through communications about all your wonderful performance posts. A TACaversary is supposed to be a celebration, but this doesn’t feel like that at all. I think @Loraine has summed up everything that I’m feeling …”bittersweet”. I’m happy that I got to make your acquaintance David, but sad that your journey will no longer include TAC. It’s very sad that the new format has made so many bright lights in TACland go dark – “and another one bites the dust”. Peace be with you my fellow guitar geek, may you journey well👍

I totally agree @Loraine , It’s really sad when I think of all the bright, kind, helpful & wonderful people that were here when I first joined TAC last year – and now they’ve all disappeared🤔. It’s really discouraging – I should be posting about my first TACiversary now, but other than my own personal progress, I would have nothing good to say. I was thinking of titling my post “The Good, The Bad And The Ugly”, but I don’t think that would go over very well, because I have more to say about the bad and the ugly than about the good😱
