Glad to hear your surgery to fix the detached retinal went well @ted_h . That’s a scary thing to go through.
I thought you did extremely well at the SNL VOM too. It was great to hear you play and to meet you. Can’t wait to hear you play more & to eventually see the guitar you’re building for your wife.

That would be my suggestion for being introduced to scales and warm ups. Mondays are always warm ups, and if you find a few you like, you should ‘favorite’ them (heart under video), and then incorporate them into your warmups. Also, Wednesdays are scales, and those are always great to use for warm ups to. Each week follows the same foundational skills and each day builds upon the Monday warm ups. Hope this helps.

Fun song @Guitargeezer-Jack — made me smile.

Hi @homeboy and welcome to TAC. Congratulations on completing the 30 days to play course. Typically, after the 30 days to play, you would take the next 6 chords. Suggest to begin the daily challenge on Monday. The format of the week follows a logical progression throughout the week and each lesson builds upon the previous lesson(s). Look through the Skills area and see if there are any lessons that would interest you. I began with the Jumpstart to fingerpicking, Jumpstart to Flatpicking and the Strumming Jumpstart. Hope this gives some direction, but this is your program and it can be anything, as much/as little as you like. Suggest the minimum of 10 minutes per day (just doing the daily lesson typically covers this) – more as you see fit, and it is all about having fun while learning the guitar.

I think that is such a great contribution @Dirk_R , and not only is it good for the residents, but it is also good for your soul and playing.

You’re so kind @Dirk_R , and you’ve come so far in such a short amount of time. I’m in awe of you!

Thanks so much for your insight @charlie_d . I had not thought about the same strings and how one pattern would work on the other same string, and I hadn’t thought of looking at the backing track and taking individual notes from the chords. Now let’s see if I can remember all this for the next improv I try.

Thanks so much @Cadgirl = I liked the backing track and felt the scale complimented it. Only a few sour notes in there – lol. I’m definitely a work I progress.

@cadgirl JMG requested that they not be promoted anymore on TAC, for several reasons, and they at a manageable and comfortable level of participation. I haven’t heard fro AAP, but they’re not in direct competition with TAC (don’t promote classes, special guests or guitar teachers).

Improv is daunting to me, probably because I don’t fully understand the fretboard. Sigh …. A journey in itself. Thanks so much for listening @KevinZ !

Thanks for your kind comments @charlie_d . Question: How do you expand outside the scale? That is such a confusing area for me. Do you find similar notes on the fretboard? Try and stick with a pattern of say 1, 4, 5 or 2, 3, 6?
