First, welcome to TAC @thanson . Hope you enjoy the site and have lots of fun while learning!
No one can necessarily tell you to do what comes easiest, but I offer the following. The lessons are teaching foundational skills, and my thoughts are that I would want to learn the correct foundation to build upon. Similar to building a house. You want a strong foundation before you build the structure. The structure would be made of the highest quality material, so that it doesn’t crumble. Moral of this story is that I suggest building a strong foundation based on how the material is taight, and then build your skills upon that.

Love the low tones and spaces afforded.

Love the transition between fingerpicking and strumming. Great embellishments!

@Alfred Thank you for sharing this with us. I think having such a strong family connection and having the guitar in common is such a great thing. I’m glad your mom is on the mend. This must be such a stressful time for the entire family, but I think it is wonderful that you’re able to be there for your mom and dad during these difficult times. It was such a pleasure meeting your dad, Bob, and hearing him play for us during the VOM.
Hang in there, and you and your family will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers.

@513604 Not necessarily (short answer). You could start with some stretching exercises to loosen up to improve stretches, and you’ll find that the more you play the better your finger span becomes. Stretching lessons – https://tonypolecastro.com/courses/guitar-players-daily-stretch-guide/

Hey Mark, I’ve definitely been in similar situations that you’ve outlined. So, what’s the easy response? Just take it a day at a time. If you commit to a minimum of 10 minutes a day, then you will more than likely be able to find at least 10 minutes every day. It’s okay to be distracted with nice weather and other things too. You might just need a break, and that is permissible and might be just what you need. It’s a personal journey that you’re on.
There have been many periods where I’ve been bored with a particular lesson or week of lessons (banjo week comes to mind– I really, really did not enjoy it). I decided to at least try each lesson, but I didn’t stress about it. I would typically surf the internet for songs, lessons, or play from the old song vault, or just peruse the forums. What I can say is that the joy has returned after periods of sheer disinterest or boredom. Typically I’d have a breakthrough on a song I was trying to play and it would energize me. Try finding some easy 2 chord songs on youtube that you can learn. Try other sites for lessons for a change up.
Just remember that this too shall pass, as do most experiences, and who knows what the future holds for us.

Very, very nice! Really enjoyed the smoothness of this and great fingerpicking. Very melodic.

Great win @Carl1909 . There’s a lot to be said about the metronome, but first one has to actually use it. I’m always amazed that if I start at a slower speed and graually increease the speed, that I’m able to play thinhgs I once thought impossible.

Thanks Jill – coulda done without the cut. I’ve ripped it open twice since. It’s just not in the best locations on the finger. I should probably listen to others that get hurt and take a breather to let healing occur, but it’s just so difficult to do.
